Dlink Layer 3 Switches Actually Do the Job Well

by Daniel Peterson

This article is written to hopefully open peoples networks and let the Dlink's in. First hand they have proven to work just as well as their more expensive competitors. While those more expensive competitors burn their customers when their misleading marketing, confusing licensing, and lack of standard ironclad warranties. Dlink can provide alternatives for less than half of their competitors per port pricing, provide warranties longer than 90 days and continued software support.

My hands on experience includes the following dlink hardware:

DXS-3350SR 48 Port 10/100/1000 Layer 3
DGS-3324SR 24 Port 10/100/1000 Layer 3
DES-3350SR 48 Port 10/100 + 2 10/100/1000 Layer 3
DES-3226L 24 Port 10/100 + 2 10/100/1000 Layer 2 Only
DES-3526 24 Port 10/100 + 2 10/100/1000 Layer 2 Only

Routing:
So far I have only used the static routing functions not enabling RIP or OSPF on the dlink however I will be doing so soon for a new project / network expansion.

Switching:
The switches support rapid spanningtree, traditional spanning tree, trunking (multiple vlans per connection), static vlans, channeling (aggregating up to 8 ports per single connection).

Other standard features include Access List support, centralized authorization, authentication, logging, simple web interface.

For any IT budget that needs to stretch DLink would be a great place to start. After working with the switches the price and functionality will be surprising.dlink-enterprise-routers-do-the-job
